Assurance must be more than a theological proposition of, “If I do A, and B, then C is sure”.  True Christian assurance is set forth in Scripture, not as a formula but as an inner witness.  God has put His Spirit inside of the believer.  The Spirit inside the believer addresses God as “Abba, Father!”  It now knows itself as God’s child and is inwardly assured as such.   “For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”  The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:15-16 NASB).

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine;

Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
