False prophets are highly resistant to cruciform living.  They avoid the deeper message of the cross and its suffering; self-denial is repugnant.  Oh yes, they may use the cross to prop up cheap grace, but never do they want to get on the cross and die.  Jesus’ choice to die on the cross was at the very same time a choice to refuse military and political power to establish His Kingdom.  This pattern of suffering was laid down for the disciples to follow, and they did.  We are still deciding, preferring less costly routes.  We are halting between two opposing opinions (Joshua 24) and in the process of our halting, we are choosing.

“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2 ESV).
