Jewish poetry was not about rhyming words, but about parallel thoughts that modified and complemented each other. This is true of biblical prose as well. A great example is John 3:36a (ESV): ‘Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life.” This verse by design keeps us from dividing belief and obedience. False teaching arises when we try to take one line and not the other. To believe in the Son is to obey Him. This is saving faith. We are only kidding ourselves if we think there is any such thing as faith and eternal life absent of obedience.
