Our spiritual formation is never finished. Our sanctification, which starts in our conversion, is deepened by unconditional consecration, sets us on a lifelong process of growth in sanctification. This growth has a clear goal of restoration in the divine likeness. Jesus is what that looks like; Christlikeness is the goal of our transformation. The Spirit is the divine sculptor, who takes our surrendered self and begins to chip away everything in our thoughts, words, and actions that do not look like Jesus. Yes, in repentance and obedience, we participate in the chipping. In the end, each of us will become a unique masterpiece from the hands of the divine Sculptor.
