“But the goat on which the lot for the scapegoat fell shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make atonement upon it, to send it into the wilderness as the scapegoat.” Lev 16:10 (NASB). The scapegoat symbolically carried sins away into the wilderness. God wants to put distance between Himself and our sins. Know that this distance is as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). He has cast our sins into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19). Know that our sins have been borne away, outside the city gate, by the Messiah (Heb 13:12). He has put our sins away so that we ourselves can draw near to Him.
