The Ten Commandments remind us that we are not to bear false witness.  It was meant to protect truth and justice.  When persons bear false witness it is meant to convict another in the light of public opinion.  A true witness speaks to that to which they can verify by their own knowledge.  A faithful witness does not seek to pass on unverifiable information; they know that to repeat a lie is to lie.  A good witness values truth, knowing truth establishes justice.  Their love for the truth means that they are never at home with innuendos, guilt by association, sharing the unverifiable, and jumping to unwarranted and illogical conclusions.  Injustice reigns when truth is ignored.  Do not expect for yourself any real spirituality of communion with the Truth if you do not regard truth in every area of knowledge.

Oh Jesus, You are “the faithful and true witness” (Revelation 3:14).  May we never tarnish Your good name by reckless disregard for truth.  May we put ourselves in the place of our fellow humans, as You have instructed us, being faithful and true witnesses as You are.  Amen!
