All of us, as believers, want to listen to the “still small voice”, those whispers of the Spirit.  On the negative side, we must turn off the loud voices of the culture.  We must mute our preconceived notions.  We must know that Satan will try to imitate it.  We must know that well intentioned friends can turn us aside from it.  We must distinguish Him from a whole array of outside occurrences.  On the positive side, we must cultivate the art of listening, not to a one time let-me-know-what-I-am-supposed-to-do episode, but make attentiveness to the Spirit a way of life.  Our soul and spirit have ears which are meant to listen to God.  Hear Him in His Word.  Hear His voice in your inner self.  He speaks.

“And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:   And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”  (1 Kings 19:11-12 KJV)
