The Old Serpent knows how to make forbidden fruit look good.  By sleight of words, promising a better way, and diversion from the command, he leads us in his way to our demise and our decay.  In the wake of partaking of the forbidden, we hurt ourselves and all those around us.  Observe what the lives of those who took the fruit starts looking like; look at what happens to them when once they digest it. The fruit of the fruit shows the nature of itself in the chaos it generates.  What is forbidden is not for our unhappiness but for our ultimate good. Obedience is a way to escape this kind of misery; it is the way to life.

“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.” (Genesis 3:4–6 NLT).
