Jesus invites us to ask the Father for the Spirit. This is more than a one-time asking, as we see in the refilling of the disciples (Acts 4:31). This asking is at the heart of our prayer life. It is knowing how much we need the Lord and His inner strength. It is the cure for self-sufficiency. It is the path to power and boldness. It is God’s plan of filling our heart and personality with Himself. We are invited to “ask for the Spirit”. We are in desperate need of this Gift. Oh Father, fill us anew and afresh with Your Holy Self!
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13 (NRSV)
