In the unsurpassed hymn, “And Can It Be”, Charles Wesley, speaking of the incarnation, said, “He emptied himself of all but love.”  Is that not a pattern for us?  Everything in us contrary to love, everything that dilutes love, everything that keeps love off our heart’s throne, must be cast down.  Everything that exalts itself against God, who is love, must go.  Is this not holiness of heart?  This emptying of all but love is the path to which we are called.

“See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are” 1 John 3:1 (NASB).  Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.” 1 John 4:11 (KJV)
