We have sadly reduced Christianity to a set of beliefs and doctrinal formulas. We have made discipleship about sitting down and mastering beliefs instead of getting up and out to the hurting. Belief is an easy way to define ourselves as “in” and others as “out”. Even that violates the Spirit of Jesus. Following Jesus is a way of life. It is a way of compassion and loving. It is a way of seeing and being. It is a way of sharing burdens and lifting loads. It is a way of suffering and shared pain. When Jesus said, “Follow me”, He is inviting us to live our daily lives in His way and by His teachings.
Jesus said, “Yes, and I can be even more explicit. You’re hopeless, you religion scholars! You load people down with rules and regulations, nearly breaking their backs, but never lift even a finger to help.” Luke 11:46 (The Message)
