The transfigured Jesus was a powerful witness for those who saw Him on, what Peter called, “the holy mount” (2 Peter 1:8). Throughout Christian history some of His followers have glowed with angelic radiance. It was so with Stephen: “And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel” Acts 6:15 (ESV). It is possible that the glory inside Christ’s followers can leak out through their faces. It is possible that heaven in us, Christ’s abiding presence, can shine in this world through our countenance.
Lord Jesus, cleanse us from self-glory so that Your glory may be seen. May we never be conscious of it; this could spoil everything. May it flow out of our inward intimate bond with You. Amen!
