I was trying to hear what my friend was saying, but could not hear it from where I was standing. The God whose voice has gone out to the ends of the earth sometimes cannot be heard because of the place we are standing. It may be a place we have chosen to be; it may be a place that you are in because of the stresses and pressures of life. It takes careful listening and often takes repositioning ourselves to hear. Our present attitudes may have created a momentary spiritual deafness. Repentance can change the place we are standing. Solitude and quietness can get us tuned in to hear His voice.
8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.” (1 Samuel 3:8-10 ESV)
