Jesus is our greater passion that puts all other passions in their place.  He is the highest love that keeps other loves from becoming idols.  We must have this greater passion for Jesus; this keeps anything else from taking over our lives.  Cruciform living, taking up the cross, is the way we deal with forbidden passions. He has to be the supreme love that puts all other loves in their place.  Without this we will justify our sins, our confessions will be partial and our repentance incomplete.

“Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God…. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” Galatians 5:19-21, 24 (NASB)
