We were naturally “children of wrath” Eph 2:3. We enter the Way as sinners right-wised (justified) by faith en route to a new natural. The actions of grace that bring us to a new natural is called sanctification. We do not get to a new natural without self-denial and a death of the old natural and without the shaping that comes through the indwelling Spirit. The goal of our formation is to become the kind of person who naturally does the good, the right and the holy.
Holy Spirit, light divine, shine upon this heart of mine.
Chase the shades of night away; turn my darkness into day.
Holy Spirit, pow’r divine, cleanse this guilty heart of mine.
Long hath sin without control held dominion o’er my soul.
Holy Spirit, joy divine, cheer this saddened heart of mine.
Bid my many woes depart; heal my wounded, bleeding heart.
Holy Spirit, all divine, dwell within this heart of mine.
Cast down ev’ry idol throne; reign supreme, and reign alone. – Andrew Reed
