In our days of LED light and strong flashlights we cannot appreciate what it was to walk with only a lamp in the dark. A lamp-lighted path only allowed you to see the next two or three steps. God’s Word is meant to show us where we should step and where we should not step; it will show up stumbling stones and pitfalls. Increasingly the authority of God’s word is more and more ignored as a safe guide for living. The light of God’s word can keep me from stumbling; it can guide me away from destructive behaviors. The Bible unread and un-pondered provides no light for the path of living.
