Connecting Advent and Holiness
I have been thinking about Advent’s connection with holiness. Let’s think about it for a few days.
The Holy One, who commanded, “Be Holy for I am Holy” came down to demonstrate holiness in human flesh in our world. This was to keep us from leaving holiness in the ivory towers disjointed from everyday life. Jesus brought it down, when God, by incarnation, entered into solidarity with those who were made out of dirt. Jesus came not only to demonstrate holiness but to make us holy. It was not being holy for you in your place, but it was enabling you by the grace of the Spirit to live a Christlike/holy life.
“Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy”. (Leviticus 19:2 NASB)
