God is love. God is Spirit. To have the Spirit is to be inhabited with love. To be filled with the Spirit is to be filled with the principle that drives the universe, love! To live in the Spirit is to live a life of love for neighbor. Sin is a failure to love. To be filled with love is meant to be the means by which sin is expelled from the heart; it is meant to displace every thought, word and deed that is rooted is something besides God’s kind of love. Love was revealed through the suffering, humiliation, and injustice of the cross. Life will test us to reveal the same kind of love that Christ revealed to us.
“Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.” 1 John 4:11-13 (NLT)
