In the hymn, “Come Thou Fount” there is a phrase which says, “Streams of mercy, never ceasing.” I am captured by the thought. The Fount produces an unending stream of mercy. Wow! We forget that we need mercy constantly flowing into our lives. We need mercy more than at the time of our conversion; we always need it. We need mercy for our lagging growth, for our mistakes, shortcomings and plain ignorance. Are you not amazed at God’s patience with you? Where would we be without it? Lord, have mercy! Lord, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
“Our eyes look to the LORD our God, until he has mercy upon us. Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt.” Psalm 123:2b-3 (NRSV)
