O Suffering Servant, we could not watch with You for one hour. We left You alone in Your pain. We slept while You prayed. Your soul was in deep anguish. We needed our rest. Forgive us! We had not yet discovered suffering love. We forgot we were partners with You in this mission of hurting with the hurting. We had not learned the triumph of redemptive suffering. Even now, we want Your cross to be our salvation, but we shrink from the cross being a way of life. Watching with You enables us to triumph in our temptations. Amen!
Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.” And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” And He *came to the disciples and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, “So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? “Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Mt 26:38-41 (NASB)
