Confession means to “say the same thing”.  It is to say the same thing about one’s sins that God says.  It is to take responsibility for one’s actions, own them, and say so.  Confession lets us face ourselves and the roots of our actions.  It must be more than rote ritual.  Confession that does not come from the heart is not confession.  Confession brings us to a place of healing and new beginning, with a desire to never repeat those sins.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed.” James 5:16a (NASB).
