Several times Jesus had heard a confirming voice from his Father.  That confirming voice was apparently absent as he underwent the baptism of his suffering.  We all wish for confirming words in our dark hours.  Sometimes they come.  Sometimes we walk by practiced obedience, trust without confirmation, and perseverance without manifest presence.  We do the right because it is right and obey our Lord because we love him.

“But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!” Luke 12:50 (NASB).
