Jesus did teach His disciples to pray.   He gave them a prayer.  We call it, The Lord’s Prayer.  It is both a pattern of prayer and a prayer to be prayed.  It may become trite for us if we pray it without engaging its meaning.  It is full of basic insights into the Kingdom of God and our life within it.  Meditate on the following translation of the prayer.  Pray it with new meaning.  Let it touch your mind in fresh new ways.

Our Father who is in heaven.
Uphold the holiness of your name.
Bring in your kingdom
so that your will is done on earth as it’s done in heaven.
Give us the bread we need for today.
Forgive us for the ways we have wronged you,
just as we also forgive those who have wronged us.
And don’t lead us into temptation,
but rescue us from the evil one.  -Matt 6:9-13, Common English Bible
