We are born with a lean toward self and away from God, though we have an intuitive longing for Him.  This problem is solved by the actions God has chosen to take on our behalf.  He died that our old self might be crucified with Christ (Rom 6:6, 11).  He sent His Spirit to be enthroned at the center of our being.  With the dethroning of self and the enthroning of the Spirit of God, we now have a new direction to which we lean.  The Spirit in us is drawing us to the Father for genuine fellowship, loving obedience and sincere worship.

“For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” Romans 8:5 (NASB)
