It was a grand moment on the Mount of Transfiguration.  Moses, the law giver, appeared with Jesus.  The towering prophet Elijah showed up.  What a moment!  “Let’s memorialize it.  Let’s build three shrines.”  Moses, the law giver, disappears.  Elijah, the prophet, is gone.  Jesus remains.  Hear what the Father is saying: “This is my beloved Son, hear Him.”  In that, God is also saying that the law and the prophets have served their purpose.  The Son has come!  Appreciate them for what they did, for the foundation they laid, but now look at Jesus.  “Behold Him!  He is central!  He is the grand end of the law, the fulfillment of prophecy and the culmination of all that I have been telling you.”

“Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’  While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!’  And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.  But Jesus came and touched them and said, ‘Arise, and do not be afraid.’  When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.” Matthew 17:4-8 (NKJV)
