God speaks and can be heard.  Yet the desire to hear God is fraught with danger.  We hear what we are inclined to hear, what we want Him to speak.  We put words into His mouth that sanction our unwillingness for mission, condones our chosen lifestyle, and gets us off cheaply.  God’s word will bring radical changes in our lifestyle; change plans; thrust us in mission.  It may be discomforting and costly.  It may not feel good, but it will be good.

“Stand in the gate of the LORD’S house and proclaim there this word and say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, all you of Judah, who enter by these gates to worship the LORD!'” Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, “Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place.” Jeremiah 7:2-3 (NASB)
