Atonement theories that stop with the cross rob the atonement of the beautiful big picture given to us in the NT.  Atonement places us into solidarity with the loving Savior (Romans 3:6-5), so much so that we are “in Christ”.  Because we have been reconciled to God, we have peace with God and are now seated with Messiah in Heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6).  The goal of atonement is to bring us to full reconciliation so that we can participate in the life of the Holy Trinity.  Atonement is to enter this mysterious relationship of being at-one with God. Amazing, that He would wash sinners and invite them to intimate fellowship with Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

“If we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 (NASB)
