The Wise Men most likely came from Persia as the first Gentiles to worship the Christ child.  It was Cyrus the king of Persia that permitted the Jews to return after exile.  The irony is that from Persia, men who were seekers after wisdom and truth, were guided by a star and found the promised Messiah.  Paul says for both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is “the wisdom of God.”   In Him is fullness of wisdom.  The wise find Christ, who is Wisdom.

“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.’” Matthew 2:1-2 (NASB)
