A gift can become a problem:

When we focus on the gift and not the Giver

When the gift makes us feel superior to others who did not get one like it

When it makes us proud and not humble

When it draws our mind and our time away from the Lord

When we use it to serve ourselves and not the God who gave it

When we fail to use it to build up the body of Christ.

Gifts are only good when we hold them in proper perspective and gladly use them to serve God and others.

“Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the gifts bestowed on us by God.” 1 Corinthians 2:12 (NRSV)
