We have replaced the word vocation with the word career.  Vocation is from the Latin and means ‘to call.’  It carries with it the sense of what we are chosen to do. In Christ each of us has a vocation.  We are called to do the Father’s will by believing in the Son (John 6:40), taking up the cross, following the Great Commandment, setting aside our will when it conflicts with God’s will. Our Christian vocation is bigger than what we do to make a living.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.” Matthew 7:21 (NASB)
