We cannot always distance ourselves from people who would do us harm.  Sometimes we can, and should, for our health or the health of a situation.  One of the things we must learn is that we have no control over other people’s words and actions.  However, we are responsible for our own words and actions.  Jesus  showed that we can love those who would harm us.  Jesus actually put Himself in harm’s way as an act of redemptive love.

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Romans 12:17-18 (NIV)
