Thomas wanted evidence for his faith, something that he could see with his own eyes, something verifiable.  He was not prepared to believe anything on the testimony of his fellow disciples.  He thought it would be faith if he could see and touch.  Yet, “Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe’” John 20:29 (NRSV).  Thomas’ faith is not superior to those who had not seen but yet are convinced by the Spirit of the resurrection of the Messiah.
