Belief that does not express itself in works is not belief.  Belief is also incompatible with resistance to the divine will.  John Wesley said, “The devils believe and tremble, and are devils still.”  To claim belief while resisting the teachings of Jesus is unbelief.  Resistance to Jesus’ teaching puts us in the company of demons and not the saints.  The marks of belief are obedience, walking in the light, and allowing your faith to work itself out as faithfulness to your Father.

“You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.  But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?” James 2:19-20 (NASB)
