The apostles of Christ were as involved in acts of righteousness as they were preaching the gospel.  Righteousness is not an abstract theological idea.  Righteousness in the Bible is right relationship lived out as compassionate mercy, restorative justice, doing right, and truth telling.  These are the actions of God toward us.  They are to be our actions as Jesus’ apprentices in the world.  We are to be doing Jesus’ kind of good.

“And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor…but do not have love, it profits me nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:3

“As it is written, “He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor, His righteousness endures forever.” 2 Corinthians 9:9
