Those who do not teach themselves humility are destined to learn it through crushing situations within their lives. It is not easy for the high to be brought low and the prideful to be crushed. Better to learn it as a prized virtue to be practiced, not one that is forced on you by your circumstances. Humility is essential in our relationship to God as well as how we relate to other persons.
