What does it mean to pray for our enemies?  It is to wish them no ill, and it expresses a desire for blessings on their lives.  It is that all enmity be eliminated from our attitudes, making sure no hate toward them is allowed to creep into our minds.  It is to radiate positive vibes, projecting the love of God that is in us out to them.  It is the intercession that the Father would grant them the same mercy that He grants to us, who were once His enemies.  It is an exercise in godliness because there is nothing more God-like than to love one’s enemies.  It is a growing experience, key to our spiritual formation.

“But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”  Luke 6:27-28 (NRSV)
