People-pleasing will shape us in very negative ways.  We will become slaves to the opinion polls about ourselves.  Wanting to be liked means that you will never be able to allow God to make the changes in your life that need to be made because, in your mind, you must run what God wants for you by someone else.  In the end you lose self-respect and dwarf your own soul.  Living truth and pleasing God is what matters.

“Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:9-10 (NASB)
