Abraham was called to leave his family and country.  Jesus also spoke about leaving your family to follow Him.  The disciples did.  Sometimes our families support us in the call of Christ.  Sometimes they may think we have gone too far in our zeal to follow the Lord.  We may even let this subtle pressure lead to compromise.  Our love for the Lord and His family must be greater than the love of our native families.  Jesus said, ”For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother” Matt 12:50 (NASB).

Then Peter said in reply, “Look, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?”  Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man is seated on the throne of his glory, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life.” Matthew 19:27-29 (NRSV)
