My Garden of Decisions

By |Sep 23, 2017|Choices, Christ, Devotionals, Forgiveness, Life, Love, Mercy|2 Comments

I have growing in my life a garden of trees called decisions.  These trees were planted by the choices I have made.  I eat fruit daily from this garden.  Some trees bear fruit long after I think they should have stopped.  Some fruit is sweet and some of it is bitter.  There is no digging

Love’s Power

No power is stronger than the power of love.  Hate is no match.  Love even triumphed over those who tried to crucify it on a cross.  When truly experienced, love can melt a heart of stone, break down walls, cover sins, forgive enemies, and reconcile families.  It is the most powerful tool at a parent’s

Every counselor knows, or should know, that it takes time for a person to come to a confession or even realization of their core problem.  Before then the counselor must detect false clues and detours that keep him or her away from the core issues at the heart of the problem.  We must know that

If I Had Only

Some of us are good at rehashing past events and conversations.  We go over and over them in our head in a kind of useless merry-go-round that ends up not being merry.  Listen!  If we could have fixed them up by rehashing them they would have been fixed a long time ago.  There is no

Shaped by Grace

Have you heard those grace filled words, “I forgive you?”  Have you heard that unconditional Voice which says, “I love you?”  Have you heard, “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” Matt 11:28 (NRSV)?  We are literally transformed by words of grace from

When angry, do not let it become sin.  That is, control your anger.  Pray for the self-control that is a fruit of the Spirit.  Don’t let the sun go down on unresolved anger (Eph 4:26).  Learn to release it by: understanding yourself, understanding the other person, and by kindness and forgiveness.  Don’t let it be

A Heart Problem

Simon the magician became a believer and was baptized.  He saw something in the apostles that was real, beyond magic, but his conversion had not yet dealt with his unholy ambitions.  He still wanted to be center stage.  He idolized the kind of power at work in the apostles.  He wanted a franchise for himself.

Forgiving Persecutors

By |Jun 10, 2017|Christ, Cross, Devotionals, Forgiveness, Forgiving, Love|0 Comments

How can one bless a persecutor?  How can one love an enemy?  How can one forgive, even when the crime is being committed?   Where does that come from?  It comes from the example of Messiah on the cross.  It comes from the Risen One living inside us, and bringing about His dying through us.

All The Keys

By |May 2, 2017|Christ, Forgiveness, Grace, Joy, Mercy, Sanctification, Surrender|0 Comments

Jesus became my Savior.  I rejoiced in His forgiveness.  His grace and mercy overwhelmed me.  I walked many days in the joy of that.  Then one day He said, “When are you going to turn over all the keys?”  “Lord”, I said, “You have the key to the front door.  We sit in the living

Moving Mountains

Context is everything.  The context of a faith and prayer that moves mountains (Mk 11:22-25) is about prayer offered from a forgiving heart.  “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses” (Mk 11:25).  It is impossible to move the
