Culture is driven by accepted customs.  Churches are driven by established traditions, even the ones who think they are not.  There have been times in history when cultural forces were more Christian than the church.  There have been times that the church has used its voice to prevent needed change and even resist established truth.  We are not called to be custodians of preserving the status quo.  We are called to be agents of the Kingdom of God.  We are called to walk through customs and traditions, guided by the example of Christ and the Spirit of the Word.

“You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”  Mark 7:8 (ESV)
