The Mother of Samson, Manoah, “prayed to the LORD: ‘O Lord, I beg you, let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born’” Judges 13:8 (NIV).  The prayer of every mother and father should be, “Lord, teach me how to bring up this child.”  This prayer expresses dependence upon God, it implies partnership with God and is a stewardship for which we are accountable.  God wants to answer this prayer.  “The man of God” and the church have a role in this.  Our Heavenly Father wants to be involved in parenting.

“Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!  You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.” Deut 6:4-7 (NASB)
